The Last Laugh

Toy Yoda

My inital reaction was to laugh out loud at this woman who should have listened more carefully to what was on offer in what was apparently an April Fool’s Day prank.

But this is from America where they have loads of ambulance-chasing lawyers and where the Courts are open to the most bizarre and spurious claims (which only tends to reinforce the ‘only in America’ stereotype). So of course the company has settled out of Court with her…

Showing Signs of Improvement

I was most amused by this story on the BBC news web site: a woman won second prize in a cake-baking contest despite being the only contestant. Judges decided that indentations from the cooling wire rack meant it should be marked-down. But how could they make it second? Second to whom? Typical sort of Middle-England mentality going on there, all full of their own importance, whereas the proper course should have been to forget about judging and just award the first prize!

Still, second prize is an improvement for her:

“About 11 years ago I entered a show with some fruit scones. I was the only entrant but I came third.”
